Hello everyone! Ginny Badcock here! I’m sorry it has been a while since I’ve posted – the month after the holidays is crazy! Let’s get right back into it, shall we? I have a story to share with you all.
You know those random memories that stick around from when you were young? Too young to have memories even? My mom and her makeup are one of those. Four-year-old me watching her, enchanted, asking her from time to time to apply that deep red, almost black on my tiny lips too. Fine, begging most likely. Here is a throwback for you:
In the mornings, my older siblings leave for school and I’m stuck at home awaiting the day I go with them. So I go into my mom’s room. The skylight on the roof makes me think I am in a palace. I watch in fascination as my mom gets ready for her day. She is sitting at her simple but luxurious makeup vanity table in her modernly decorated bedroom, humming to Elton John on the radio. She likes to have fun with the colors and brushes when she has the time and patience. No rush to get anywhere, only me and her having our mom and daughter time.
When my mom is satisfied with the result, she gets up and sprays her perfume as her final step. A little too much but it was a delicious scent I still attach to her.
It felt as though I was a part of Breakfast at Tiffany’s. When I was young, that was my favorite. Perhaps she put on a show for me, to make me laugh.
She puts on makeup for herself because she enjoys it. To match the lip shade to the eyeshadow in a cute way. Or going for bold and daring with blue eyes and blush galore. Not for my dad or any other person. She is comfortable in her own skin and lives life with a bare face just as much as she doesn’t. We giggle when she lets me “play makeup” and I smear her favorite lush mascara all over the mirror.
YOU ARE PERFECT THE WAY YOU ARE!
I loved examining how she did it. How she used it to emphasize her natural beauty. Or wanted to appear extra fierce.
Every woman or whoever chooses to wear makeup is exceedingly perfect as they are and does not need it to look or feel beautiful. But for whatever reason you do, or if you want to feel more like the queen you are, then keep reading. I put on makeup because I want to. But easier said than done!
All of my makeup goodies are spread out on my bed in the morning, and I try to put it on right there. A desk won’t fit, so here we are. With every light on too as there’s minimal natural light to come in through my window. But it’s not enough, and I’m that person who can’t blend their face with their neck.
I am sitting on my bathroom sink. Only just fitting while cross-legged with a numb leg. Right after my roommate gets out of the shower and somehow gets water all over every surface. I move a smidge and the $63 liquid foundation that took the Sephora makeup queens 20 minutes to perfectly match with my awkward neutral but peachy tone topples over. It seeps down the drain. The bathroom has the best lighting in the house though, so I must be there if I have any hope of contouring successfully.
Not anymore though, with the perfect makeup vanity furniture.
Now, I can see how I look when I leave the house. My eyebrow game is strong. Plus, I am not one of the Kardashians who can afford a whole room dedicated to concealer and another for mascara. Am I exaggerating? Hardly, it turns out.
A makeup vanity desk is not something that needs to empty your bank account. Or your credit. It can do the opposite and revamp the bad credit. Plus, is compact enough to fit in the limited space in my room! Always measure a couple of areas for depth, wide and height; this helps drop makeup table choices I had in mind. The practical reality of space and functionality in the room made me seem like such an adult.
Never worry about the style of the desk. Show off a rustic vibe, or easily blend into the room with other things. Don’t think you have any style? I’m sure you do! But a great way to get some creativity and style into any space easily? Buy rugs. Rugs make any space appear you put effort into it.
Plus, the makeup vanity is practical. Drawers galore for all of my applicators and brushes! Not to mention my few (dozen) compacts of blush and bronzer, and let’s not forget eyeshadow. My mascaras and backup-up mascaras. You know, the usual. Now, all of my products are strewn everywhere.
Then we get to the bigger stuff. Hidden storage cupboards that hold my jewelry. Drawers to fit my hairdryer, straightener, and triple barrel curling iron, heat protector, and coconut oil. I love the luxurious manner, it’s the focal point of my bedroom, and it compliments the tasteful area rugs to make the whole design come together.
It’s always possible to put the makeup vanity set in your bathroom. Though maybe not ideal because of steam and temperature change. This is where perfect lighting and mirror come into play and make it seem like you’re in a dressing room.
Feeling like a Kardashian
I may not be Kylie Kardashian, with my own makeup line and people doting on me hand and foot. But I can feel as glam as her. We all know how magical Pinterest is; I use Pinterest for vanity tables style ideas.
The mirror is essential of course, and its design must be practical to your creative needs. Whether you choose a set of lights built in or not is up to you. That goes for creativity too. Now I can see my creation and be framed by a beautiful mirror. Plus, the one I chose has a mirror with an adjustable tilt!
Guess what else? I did not even buy it. I’m leasing! It’s no surprise I am trying my hardest to be smart with my money, as a millennial. To lease a vanity table or any other furniture or electronic item is easier than I thought. Furniture7 works with Progressive Leasing and Best Buy to make sure I get what I need, with no credit required.
It makes one amazing birthday gift or something to treat yourself with! My mom could use a vanity set update, now that I think about it. Or even a wonderful gift for that special romantic holiday this month! Hint, hint, men. You can even buy now, and pay later!
All in all, be sure to measure to help decide which makeup desk is right for you and your space. Don’t worry too much about the style. Make sure the design has storage, a mirror with lighting or works with your current lighting. I bought myself a makeup vanity set because I deserve it. The makeup I put on is for me, no one else. It’s practical, and I am no longer cursing my roommate for taking forever in the shower, leaving me four whole minutes throw on chunky mascara and lipstick on my teeth.
